The pro wrestling world saw a big name change companies yesterday, as Jade Cargill officially made the leap from AEW to WWE. The day began with an ESPN article announcing her signing and was quickly followed by a WWE social media blitz that included photos and video and the former TBS Champion at the Performance Report. Her announcement also triggered a series of comments from AEW and WWE stars, with some of her former All Elite family offering praise and new sports entertainment competitors sending warnings.
When wrestlers leap from one promotion to another, it can sometimes be on bad terms or interpreted negatively. It has been reported that Cargill left AEW on good terms, and Tony Khan offered praise for her just yesterday, but that has not stopped some fans from drawing negative conclusions. AEW Executive Vice President Kenny Omega took to social media earlier today to address some of the negativity that has been created online following Cargill’s move.
“This may be news to a lot of fans out there, but when one wrestler goes from one company to another, we tend to always wish them the best and cheer for them while they embark on their new journey,” he said. “Genuinely. It’s embarrassing and shameful that some fans aren’t capable of the same.”
One notable name that generated attention for their praise of Cargill following her WWE signing is Ricky Starks. The former TNT Champion has regularly been featured in the main event picture on AEW: Collision and shared that he was “proud” of Cargill on his X account. His comment about Cargill comes not long after a recent Instagram Stories post giving flowers to CM Punk, which he later deleted and claimed his account had been hacked.
Cagill’s last AEW match took place less than two weeks ago on AEW: Rampage, losing a TBS Championship rematch to Kris Statlander. In WWE’s announcement about her signing, it was not made clear if she would be joining the main or NXT roster.
