Over the last twenty-four hours, a rumor has flared up online that a Tony Khan tease from an AEW WrestleDream trailer about pro wrestling entering “a new era” means he has bought NJPW. Various fans have tried their best to prove the theory via online sleuthing, but the rumor has remained just that.
Just now, on the AEW WrestleDream media call, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp asked Khan about the rampant speculation. Khan replied by saying that he thought the speculation was good and created a reason for fans to want to buy the PPV. He went on to talk about how he was surprised by the rumor because NJPW has been such a great partner for the promotion, and he has enjoyed working with them.
Later on the call, WrestleZone’s Bruce Pritchard followed up on Sapp’s question and pressed the AEW President on whether he had actually purchased NJPW. Khan bluntly responded that he would not clarify his previous comments about the rumor and said he was trying to sell PPVs. He added that he has become known for making bold proclamations and delivering on them.
“I want to keep doing adventurous things,” Khan said.
