Unfortunately, Jon Moxley isn’t the only AEW star who walked out of Arthur Ashe Stadium with some sort of injury. During the Dynamite: Grand Slam main event, Adam Cole ran in to give MJF some support against Samoa Joe but seemingly hurt himself in the process. Cole jumped from the entrance ramp to the ringside area and landed awkwardly, causing him to noticeably limp throughout the remainder of the match. Ultimately, however, he was still able to help MJF retain the AEW World Championship.
Fightful Select has since reported some new details regarding the former NXT Champion’s apparent injury. The outlet reports that Cole continued limping and was in pain backstage and was eventually taken to hospital. He has since been released and was last seen being supported by crutches. The exact nature of Cole’s injury, and his status for AEW WrestleDream next week, is unknown at the time of writing.
Cole was forced onto the sidelines for nine months last year due to concussion issues that stemmed from his match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2022 with Jay White, Hangman Page, and Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. He made a one-time appearance in January earlier this year to thank fans for their support, officially turning face in the process, before finally returning to the ring in March.
Since his return, Cole has been closely linked to AEW World Champion MJF throughout the summer. The two faced off on the June 14th edition of Dynamite, which ended in a time-limit draw, before being allied together in the Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament for a shot at FTR’s AEW World Tag Team Championship. Cole & Friedman ended up winning that tournament and whilst they didn’t dethrone FTR, the two went on to beat Aussie Open for the ROH World Tag Team Championship at AEW All In.
