We are more than two weeks removed from Tony Khan and All Elite Wrestling terminating their contracts with CM Punk, real name Phil Brooks. In the weeks since rumors have swirled in regard to what The Second City Savior’s future in the world of pro wrestling looks like or if there is a future at all. One thing we know for sure is that Punk is looking to stay out of the courtroom and move on with his life following his termination. Even still, many questions linger about the circumstances that led to things ultimately not working out between Punk and AEW.
On Superstar Crossover, Khan was pressed about what went wrong between the two once harmonious sides.
“Well, I can’t really comment on that,” he said. “But you know, I appreciate you asking, but I, you know, I’m very excited about the things we are doing. Like I said, we’ve been on probably the best run of AEW pay-per-views we’ve ever had, and the TV shows have been really strong. We’ve had a lot of great matches both on TV and pay-per-view, and it feels like this week, it’s all really coming together.”
Another big name that is rumored to have exited AEW is former TBS Champion Jade Cargill. Cargill was the inaugural TBS Champion and held onto the title for an impressive 508 days before losing it to current champion Kris Statlander at Double or Nothing back in May. Following her loss, Cargill remained off television for several months before returning on the September 9 episode of AEW: Collision to set up a rematch with Statlander on the following week’s Rampage. Cargill ultimately lost the rematch, and now word is spreading quickly that she is headed to WWE.
“As far as Jade goes, I can’t really comment on that,” Khan said, addressing Cargill’s AEW status. “Jade has been a great wrestler for AEW and certainly always welcome in AEW, you know, could always be somebody we would always love to work with here in AEW.”
