Earlier today, word broke that WWE Executive Vice President of Development and Digital Jamie Horowitz was the first employee from the company to be laid off. Layoffs have been expected today as WWE President Nick Khan sent out an internal email to employees yesterday letting them know to work remotely today, as they would be addressing “workforce reductions” and wanted those being laid off to be able to have respectful and private conversations with the Human Resources Team.
PWInsider reports that WWE’s Executive Vice President and Head of Marketing, Catherine Newman, has also been laid off from the company. Her responsibilities included overseeing Marketing, Brand, Community Relations, Entertainment Relations, Creative Services, and Photography. Prior to being hired by WWE in June 2022, Newman served as the Chief Marketing Officer for Manchester United Media.
Today’s layoffs are taking place due to the WWE and UFC merger and the redundancies it creates in multiple departments. As Haus of Wrestling reported yesterday, major talent cuts to WWE’s main and NXT roster are expected but may not take place today.
