Later today, in India, John Cena will team with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freaking” Rollins against Imperium’s Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser as part of WWE Superstar Spectacle. Haus of Wrestling has learned that WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther is traveling with his Imperium stablemates and could appear in their corner. Cena’s appearance is the latest of many more that are expected over the coming weeks, as WWE has confirmed he will be a regular on Smackdown for at least the next six weeks.
While in India to promote the show, Cena took place in a media scrum with several local outlets. Sportskeeda was able to get in a quick question with The Doctor of Thuganomics, asking him how he felt about his successor, Roman Reigns, and how he has taken on the mantle of being the face of WWE since Cena left.
“In my perspective,” he began. “I think Roman Reigns is the greatest of all time.”
Cena and Reigns have not crossed paths since the leader of the Cenation made his return last Friday night since The Tribal Chief appears to be taking some time off following his WWE SummerSlam Tribal Combat win over Jey Uso. However, the two eventual WWE Hall of Famers have encountered one another in the past on several occasions.
The last time the two men shared a ring was the December 30, 2022, episode of WWE Friday Night Smackdown. That episode saw Cena tagging with Kevin Owens against Reigns and Sami Zayn, who was aligned with The Bloodline at the time. Cena and Owens picked up the victory, with Owens pinning Zayn following a Stunner.
Cena and Reigns’ last singles match took place at WWE SummerSlam 2021. In the main event, Reigns successfully retained the WWE Universal Championship against Cena. The match had some added drama, as a stipulation was in place that if Reigns lost, he would have to leave WWE forever.
