Chris Jericho hasn’t competed in an AEW singles bout since his loss to IWGP United Kingdom Champion Will Ospreay at AEW All In: London two weeks ago. Following the bout, the star showed frustration at his on-screen friend Sammy Guevara and tensions between the two have been building on Dynamite ever since. Now, things seem to have come to a head during this Friday’s edition of AEW Rampage. Spoilers ahead, you have been warned!
Following last night’s AEW Dynamite, tapings for this week’s Rampage took place which saw Chris Jericho feature in a prominent segment. A video recap played for the crowd, recounting the issues between Jericho and Guevara lately, before Guevara made it his way to the ring and called out his former Inner Circle mentor. Jericho, who was providing commentary for the event, joined Guevara in the ring and the two engaged in a war of words.
Eventually, Jericho suggested that they could settle their animosities by clashing in the ring before allying once more to challenge for FTR’s AEW World Tag Team Championship. Guevara agreed and the two set the match for Arthur Ashe Stadium at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam in less than two weeks! This will mark the first time Guevara and Jericho have ever faced off against each other in their wrestling careers as the two have been partners since The Inner Circle’s formation on the inaugural AEW Dynamite.
Elsewhere on the Rampage tapings: Hikaru Shida, Skye Blue and Britt Baker defeated The Bunny, Anna Jay and Taya Valkyrie; The Young Bucks defeated Matt Menard and Angelo Parker; and two Grand Slam World Title Tournament Quarter-Final matches took place which saw Samoa Joe and Penta El Zero Miedo advance in the tournament. The two will face off in a semi-final match on Collision this Saturday alongside Darby Allin versus Roderick Strong in the show’s second semi-final.
