This past weekend, All Elite Wrestling and Tony Khan terminated their contracts with CM Punk, real name Phil Brooks, following an internal investigation into a backstage altercation he had with Jack Perry moments before AEW: All In London went live on pay-per-view. In the wake of the termination, questions have swirled about how the backstage drama around Punk and The Elite was allowed to grow worse, eventually leading to where we are now. One man who decided to lend his services to AEW in order to prevent interpersonal locker room issues from lingering is former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett.
“Just a thought,” Barnett began in a social media post yesterday. “Seems like the AEW locker room is in need of someone to establish some order and reign in the chaos. If Tony needs someone to keep discipline and sort out conflict, I’d be willing to take the job. I can promise you there won’t be random fights and anyone asking me if I’d like to, ‘Take it outside.'”
Barnett’s offer seemed legitimate, as unlikely as it is to be taken up by Khan and All Elite management. Infamously, Barnett did not see eye-to-eye with The Young Bucks in NJPW and routinely criticized their work style on commentary. Now, another man is offering his services to AEW, albeit in a much more light-hearted fashion: professional competitor eater for retired pro wrestler Megabyte Ronnie.
“Just a thought,” he began, echoing Barnett. “Seems like the AEW locker room is in need of someone to eat at catering and reign in the food. If Tony needs someone to eat and sort out the leftovers from catering, I’d be willing to take the job. I can promise you there won’t be random leftovers and anyone asking me if I’d like to ‘Take a to go box'”
Ronnie is no stranger to AEW, as he competed in an AEW: Dark match during the pandemic against Brian Cage. As he told Haus of Wrestling earlier this year, the appearance came about after taping an episode of Hot Ones with then-AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes. Unfortunately, due to a back injury, Ronnie was forced to retire from pro wrestling earlier this year, but he has continued his love of competitive eating. At this year’s Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Competition, he took fourteenth place, eating sixteen hot dogs in ten minutes.
