After AEW Dynamite opened up with a few words from previous AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy, Jon Moxley interrupted Cassidy’s exit to defend his newly won title against AR Fox. While Fox was able to get some offense in throughout the match, it was a dominant showing from the champion, coming to an end with a Death Rider on Moxley’s part.
Moxley defeated Cassidy in the main event of Sunday’s AEW All Out pay-per-view, making the International Championship the second title Moxley has held in the promotion. The bloody match served as another star-making turn for Cassidy, who put on a number of impressive performances over the course of his title run. Cassidy’s match against Moxley was his 32nd defense of the championship, which he won from Pac last October.
With Moxley entering before Cassidy could leave, and the former champion sticking around backstage to watch the match, it seems the two aren’t through with one another just yet. Orange Cassidy and his allies have been engaged in a feud with the Blackpool Combat Club for around the last month, but it’s unknown if the feud will stay between Moxley and Cassidy moving forward or if their stablemates will involve themselves again.
The current storyline surrounding Fox was in a bit of an odd place heading into tonight’s show. Days before AEW All In, Fox was written out of the tag match he was scheduled to compete in, with Christian Cage taking his place. Just a short time after Fox brutally beat down Nick Wayne and Darby Allin alongside Swerve Strickland, Strickland removed Fox from the Mogul Embassy for getting pinned. Now, Allin has forgiven Fox, accompanying him to the ring tonight before returning backstage to watch the match alongside Cassidy.
