WWE Hall of Famer Edge, real name Adam Copeland, wrestled what could be his last WWE match a few weeks ago on Friday Night Smackdown against Sheamus. In front of his hometown crowd of Toronto, his wife, and children, The Rated R Superstar picked up a hard-fought victory over The Celtic Warrior and left many speculating about what his future holds. Copeland has confirmed that the match was the final on his current WWE contract and that come the end of September, he will be a free agent.
During last night’s AEW: All Out media scrums, I asked Copeland’s long-time best friend and multi-time World Tag Team partner, TNT Champion Christian Cage, if he sees a reunion between the two happening in All Elite Wrestling.
“I only talk about myself and Luchasaurus, and I have no friends other than Luchasaurus,” he shot back. “I’ll leave it at that.”
Many in WWE and AEW reportedly feel Copeland joining the All Elite ranks is all but inevitable at this point. If he does come about the promotion, it is not a guarantee that he will be aligned with Cage. At the moment, Cage is one of AEW’s top heels, and his current demeanor doesn’t seem to match the fun energy he and Copeland are known for. It is totally possible that if Copeland makes the leap, he finds himself at odds with Cage and his henchman, Luchasaurus.
It is worth noting that CJ Perry made her AEW debut last night, helping to fend off a meaty post-match attack by Powerhouse Hobbs on her husband, Miro. While the audience expected an embrace between the two, Miro instead chose to roll out of the ring, looking frustrated as his confused wife looked on from the ring.
For those interested, Rick Ucchino of Cageside Seats asked Khan about Perry’s AEW status during the post-show scrums, and the AEW President confirmed she had not signed a long-term agreement.
