In the penultimate match of AEW All Out, Matt and Nick Jackson of the Young Bucks teamed up with their bitter rivals, AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR, against Bullet Club Gold – “Switchblade” Jay White, Juice Robinson, Austin Gunn, and Colten Gunn. The Young Bucks and FTR wound up losing the bout, with Colten picking up the pin after a little over 20 minutes of action.
The United Center crowd went wild for the match, staying loud just about the entire time. There was a particular focus on the Young Bucks in both positive and negative fashion. Chicago’s love of CM Punk is well known, and with Punk having been terminated from AEW just days ago, his public issues with the Jackson brothers played a major role in getting the crowd riled up.
However, rather than a one-sided reaction against the Young Bucks, the Chicago crowd was surprisingly mixed, with about half of the audience supporting the Elite members while the other half was staunchly opposed. There were attempts at CM Punk chants throughout the match, but they were met with boos by other fans, as captured by our own Nick Hausman live from the United Center. Later on in the match, the crowd could be heard chanting, “Oh, cry me a river.”
Despite FTR’s close association with Punk (or perhaps because of it), there was little direct conflict between the Bucks and Harwood and Wheeler onscreen during tonight’s bout. Instead, their loss came down to a matter of teamwork. Bullet Club Gold was able to squeak out a win because they’re used to working together, while the team of the Young Bucks and FTR was clearly not a well-oiled machine. FTR is coming off a huge win last weekend, defeating the Jackson brothers to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship in front of more than 81,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Now, with tonight’s loss as well as FTR losing their closest onscreen ally, it remains to be seen where their story with the Young Bucks heads from here.
