Kevin Owens may not have walked away from Pittsburgh with his half of the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship, but he did leave with a physical reminder of his WWE Payback fight with The Judgement Day after being bloodied during the brutal bout.
Owens defended his tag team titles alongside Sami Zayn against The Judgement Day’s Damian Priest and Finn Balor. The ensuing Pittsburgh Steel City Street Fight was a violent affair that saw the defending champions pay tribute to the late Terry Funk as well as The Pittsburgh Penguins with hockey sticks, jerseys and all!
At one point during the bout, however, Owens seemed to be hit by a stray elbow from an interfering Dominik Mysterio which badly busted open the former Universal Champion. Owens bled profusely for several minutes whilst fighting Balor, Priest and Mysterio around the arena before finally being cleaned up by the referee when he returned to the squared circle.
Ultimately, the quite literal blood, sweat, and tears were not enough for the Montreal natives to keep hold of their titles. Towards the end of the bout, WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley appeared and speared Kevin Owens through the ringside barricade. The distraction allowed Dominik to hit Sami Zayn with Priest’s Money In The Bank briefcase and for Balor to roll over and pin the former NXT Champion to capture the gold.
