The Bloodline storyline re-emerged on tonight’s WWE SmackDown, with Jimmy Uso showing up to confront none other than John Cena. In the midst of an inspirational promo from Cena, Uso came out, telling Cena the ring belonged to him now and that Cena reminded him of Roman Reigns. According to Uso, the only difference between Reigns and Cena is that Cena wears a smile. In response, Cena told Uso that the wrong brother quit, referencing the actions of Jey Uso last month. This prompted Jimmy to attempt a superkick against Cena, which “The Champ” blocked before hitting Uso with an Attitude Adjustment.
Before being confronted by Uso, Cena confirmed rumors from earlier today that he would serve as the host of WWE Payback tomorrow night. The premium live event is currently set to include Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus inside a steel cage, Shinsuke Nakamura challenging Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn defending the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships against Finn Balor and Damian Priest of The Judgment Day, and more.
Cena is currently scheduled to appear for the next seven weeks, with earlier reports confirming that the ongoing SAG/AFTRA and WGA strikes in Hollywood gave Cena enough free time to fit in another WWE return. If the strikes conclude by the end of October, Cena’s run will come to an end. Should the strikes continue, fans will have to stay tuned to see if Cena sticks around any longer.
As hinted at by Cena tonight, the latest major developed in the Bloodline saga saw Jey Uso hit superkicks on Reigns, his brother Jimmy, and Solo Sikoa before declaring that he quit on the August 11 edition of SmackDown. Jey has yet to return since, and the performer has been moved to the alumni section of the company’s website. It is, of course, a matter of time before Jey re-appears, though his future motivations remain to be seen.
Following his confrontation with Cena tonight, a brief backstage segment showed Jimmy walking frustrated through the hallway at his embarrassment. With plenty of time left in tonight’s SmackDown, it seems very possible that Jimmy lets his frustrations out in some other way before the show’s conclusion.
