CM Punk has just retained the “Real AEW World Championship” over Samoa Joe at AEW All In, but the altercation fans are already buzzing about involves The Second City Saint backstage with fellow AEW star Jack Perry. Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reports on X that there was a “physical confrontation” between Punk and Perry moments before Punk walked through the curtain for his match against Joe. Perry looks to have said something along the lines of “it’s real glass, cry me a river” to the camera after a spot in his Zero Hour match against Hook, setting off the confrontation between both men afterward.
It is worth noting that Punk and Perry reportedly recently shared words backstage at AEW Collision over a segment Perry was booked for involving him smashing glass. Perry was apparently insistent that real glass be used, which Punk objected to, noting they don’t do those sorts of things on Saturday nights and that they should use gimmicked glass instead. The AEW doctors and production team were said to be against the use of real glass, as well.
Perry lost the FTW Championship on Zero Hour to former champion HOOK. The match started off hot, with Hook attacking Perry in the entranceway before Perry turned the tides and dropped HOOK into the window shield of the limousine he had ridden into the ringside area. Following the spot, HOOK had a large cut across his back, presumably because real glass was used for the spot instead of gimmicked glass.
