With just two weeks to go before AEW All In London, the young promotion is being hit with some bad news in regard to one talent who is in a marquee match, Cash Wheeler, real name Daniel Wheeler. Wheeler is one-half of current AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR and is slated to take on The Young Bucks in a rubber match in front of 80,000 fans.
Unfortunately, The Orlando Sentinal is reporting that Wheeler was arrested earlier this morning on one count of aggravated assault with a firearm. He was booked in Circuit Court, based on records obtained by The Orlando Sentinal. There were no further details provided.
AEW released the following statement to the outlet in regard to the charges: “AEW has been made aware of the charge, and we are closely monitoring the situation. (Wheeler) is fully cooperating with local authorities.”
Wheeler and Dax Harwood, his AEW World Tag Team Championship partner, won back their titles on the April 5, 2023 episode of AEW Dynamite, defeating then-champions, The Gunns. The match had high stakes, as FTR said they would quit AEW if they did not win back their titles, but ultimately, with the win, they stayed with the company and have gone on to have critically-acclaimed bouts with teams like Bullet Club Gold.
Wheeler was also the victim of a gruesome accident that happened on the 2021 edition of Fight For The Fallen. During a tag team match against Proud n’ Powerful, Santana, and Ortiz, Wheeler was thrown off the top rope to the outside, but his forearm caught some exposed metal on the ring post. The AEW star was sliced open in the process and lost a lot of blood but was ultimately able to recover due to the quick actions of ringside medical professionals.
Haus of Wrestling will bring you the latest on the charge against Wheeler and how it could affect booking going into AEW All In next weekend, as well as Collision, where he is a central character.
