Tonight’s Becky Lynch versus Trish Stratus match on WWE Raw came to a close with a double count-out, as the two women were unable to keep their fighting contained to the ring. Because of the disappointing finish, Adam Pearce announced the next Lynch and Stratus bout will take place inside a steel cage. As of now, it’s unknown whether the match will take place during a coming episode of Raw or at WWE Payback on September 2, or some other date, for that matter.
After months of build, it was a shock to many fans when the long-awaited rematch between Lynch and Stratus was left off the card for WWE SummerSlam earlier this month. It was then believed that the match would be given a spotlight on a later episode of WWE Raw, perhaps in a main event role. However, tonight’s show featured the singles match between Lynch and Stratus right around the start of the third hour. Thankfully, the short match was just a way to set up a bigger bout down the road.
The story between Lynch and Stratus dates to earlier this year, with both women teaming alongside Lita to face Damage CTRL at WWE WrestleMania 39. However, a short time later, Stratus turned on both Lita and Lynch, leading to their current feud. Lynch and Stratus first faced off in singles action at WWE Night of Champions in May, with Stratus emerging victorious due to the assistance of Zoey Stark. In the months since, Stark has become both muscle as well as a protege of Stratus, including offering her help against Lynch during tonight’s post-match brawl.
