The main event of SummerSlam saw Roman Reigns defeat Jey Uso with the help of Solo Sikoa and, shockingly, a returning Jimmy Uso. Uso arrived in disguise near the end of the match, pulling his brother out of the ring just as it looked as though Jey had won. The brutal match saw Reigns powerbomb Jey onto a stack of chairs, both men go through a table on the outside when Uso dropped Reigns with a Samoan drop, and Reigns get whipped with a leather strap by his cousin. Though Solo Sikoa eventually arrived to help Reigns, Jey was able to hold his own against the two men, and nearly won.
Though Jimmy stopped his brother from winning, it did not look as though it was something Reigns was anticipating. The Tribal Chief looked on in confusion before planting Jey through a table with a spear. Reigns then pinned Jey to retain his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and the title of Tribal Chief.
Though the immediate storyline pitting Jey against Reigns is just several months old, the relationship between Jey, Jimmy, Sikoa, and Reigns has been a key element of the incredibly successful Bloodline plot that has steadily developed over the last three years. The brothers first found themselves at odds with Reigns, then became loyal members of The Bloodline, and finally broke free after having their eyes opened by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.
Heading out of this year’s SummerSlam, the vast majority of WWE’s stars have a blank slate in terms of storylines. Tonight seemingly saw the conclusion of the feuds between Reigns and Jey, Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor, Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler, and Drew McIntyre and GUNTHER.
Reigns will now continue on as the most dominant world champion in modern WWE history. As of today, Reigns has held the WWE Championship for 490 days and the Universal Championship for 1,071 days.
