At WWE Money In The Bank, Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships to Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. The loss was not without controversy, as when Rousey was preparing to lock up with Morgan, Baszler attacked her from behind, shocking the world by turning on her long-time friend.
Traditionally, when a wrestler attacks another wrestler from behind, they get heat for acting underhanded and are turned heel. Baszler, on the other hand, was quickly slotted as the babyface in the program, coming out to cheers on the Monday Night Raw after Money In The Bank, and, over the past few weeks, their roles have become more defined. Rousey has fully embraced her heel role, boasting about how she took the “back door” into WWE instead of having to grind it out in the Performance Center and WWE NXT.
This past Monday night on Raw, Baszler made it clear that she wants a “fight” against Rousey at SummerSlam, and it appears she has gotten her wish.
“BREAKING: Former friends, allies, and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions @RondaRousey and @QoSBaszler will battle at #SummerSlam,” WWE announced on X.
The match between Rousey and Baszler will undoubtedly be a hard-hitting affair as both have MMA backgrounds and were cornerstones of the MMA’s version of The Four Horsewomen, different than the infamous NXT foursome. The match also takes place at a time when Rousey’s future with WWE seems to be in question. The former UFC Champion has reportedly given WWE a “hard out” date for leaving the company that is coming up soon, possibly for a period of time or forever. A feud with Baszler has always been at the top of Rousey’s WWE wish list, as she credits her friend for getting her into the world of pro wrestling.
