Last April, Cody Rhodes shocked the pro wrestling world when he leaped from a company he helped build, All Elite Wrestling, back to a promotion that last featured him in facepaint and a full body suit, World Wrestling Entertainment. As the son of WWE Hall of Fame inductee “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, it would always be a unique path for the second-generation performer, filled with high stakes and pressure.
Now, fans will get a chance to hear Cody tell the story of how he got to the main event of WWE WrestleMania 39 in his own words. Peacock has released the official trailer for the upcoming documentary WWE American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes. The film looks to cover the entirety of Cody’s life, including his unedited comments about the highs and “maddening” lows of his career. Notably, Cody’s exit from WWE and time away from the promotion looks to be addressed, with Kevin Owens laughing about how Vince McMahon flew to the former EVP’s home in order to re-sign him.
“Cody Rhodes grew up living in the shadow of his father, WWE Hall of Famer ‘The American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes,” the official synopsis reads. “In 2016, Cody risked it all by leaving WWE to make a name for himself, becoming the ‘American Nightmare.’ This intimate and revealing documentary follows Cody’s journey away from the WWE, and his return at WrestleMania 38 last year, as he chases the dream of winning the WWE championship, the one title his father was never able to claim. Through never-before-seen footage & unprecedented access, this Peacock Original illustrates the transformation of a man who is blazing a new trail in sports entertainment.”
The documentary will begin streaming on Peacock on July 31, kicking off WWE SummerSlam week. While not official, it appears that Cody and Brock Lesnar will present the third, and perhaps final, chapter in their feud at The Biggest Party of The Summer. Lesnar is scheduled to be on WWE Raw tonight in order to respond to Cody’s challenge for a match.
