This past Saturday night, LA Knight held the rowdy London crowd in the palm of his hand as he valiantly attempted to capture the Money In The Bank briefcase. Unfortunately for Knight and his many fans, The Judgment Day’s Damian Priest ultimately came out on top and will now have a chance to solidify himself in WWE’s main event picture. Undaunted, it certainly looks like Knight is poised to continue with the momentum he is creating, and Paul “Triple H” Levesque made a point to say in the post-show press conference that “great things come to those who wait” regarding his trajectory.
Knight has caught the eye of one WWE Hall of Famer: current NXT commentator and six-time World Champion Booker T. Recently, on his The Hall of Fame podcast, Booker suggested the WWE should “put the rocket on” the fan favorite and that the company would be well-served to capitalize on the organic reaction he is eliciting from the crowd.
During the WWE Money In The Bank press junket in London this past weekend, I had the chance to ask Knight about Booker’s comments and what it meant to get that kind of endorsement from a legend like that.
“Look, that’s cool,” he said. “It’s been a long time coming; I’ll just put it that way. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, you don’t need to strap the rocket to me. I’ve been strapping the rock into myself for a good long time, and you’re seeing where it’s taken us.”
WWE may have thrown some breadcrumbs out this past weekend in regard to what is next for Knight. During the WWE live event in Dublin, Ireland, on June 29, Knight confronted United States Champion Austin Theory, who had just successfully defended his title against AJ Styles and Knight in a triple-threat match. Knight dropped Theory to a big reaction and then paraded around the ring with the US title in hand. With SummerSlam on the horizon, is it possible we see Knight vs Theory with gold on the line? YEAH!
