Just over a week ago, Paul “Triple H” Levesque bestowed on Roman Reigns a brand new WWE Universal Championship. The Tribal Chief had just surpassed 1000 days as champion and with Rollins officially carrying his former WWE Championship it seemed like the perfect to combine both the titles that Reigns had been carrying around. Whether you like the new gold and black design is very much a personal question.
Regardless of the new championship aesthetic, it is now time for Reigns to put his new hardware on the line against whoever wants to step up to him next. The Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati, Ohio has announced that former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio will be that man as he will take on Reigns on June 17 at a WWE Supershow event. Tickets are still available for the show and range from $24 up to $124 per seat.
The timing of Reigns’ appearance this Saturday night is somewhat interesting considering CM Punk is set to return to AEW action on Collision the same night. While the WWE Supershow will not be broadcast on TV, or online, as Collision will be, Cincinnati is not that far away from Chicago, about four and a half hours by car. I suppose it is possible there’s a diehard Reigns fan in Chicago that may ditch Collision to see The Bloodline leader in action but those fans have to be few and far between.
It is worth noting that it is on these Supershows, aka house shows, that talent gets to work with other stars that they may soon be working with on TV. Mysterio was victorious over Dominik at WrestleMania 39 and has been presented prominently as the mentor to the LWO, with Santo Escobar seemingly serving as the leader. Reigns is being advertised for Money In The Bank on July 1 but with no challenger for his new WWE Universal Championship announced, it is possible Mysterio could be slotted into the big London main event.
