Dark Side of The Ring returns next Tuesday with its season four season premiere, Chris And Tammy. The episode will focus on the tumultuous relationship of former WWE stars, Chris Candido and Tammy “Sunny” Sytch, and will kick off a ten-week run for the docuseries. Between seasons three and four, the team behind Dark Side worked with multi-time WWE Champion Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on a different show, Tales From The Territories.
Unlike Dark Side of The Ring, Tales From The Territories took a more light-hearted look back at the various pro wrestling territories that existed before Vince McMahon’s nationwide expansion. Much like Dark Side, it also featured legendary pro wrestling figures, but instead of confessional-style interviews, they were seated around a table, swapping stories.
In a Haus of Wrestling exclusive interview, now available on the Haus of Wrestling podcast feed, Dark Side of The Ring co-creator, Evan Husney, commented on whether the series will be getting a season two.
“I don’t know,” he said. “The jury’s still a little out on that, on if we’re gonna go back. I think the intention was always to go into Dark Side four after this, and it’s tough for us because we do like to, like, maybe we should scale the operation and have other people come in, and make stuff, and we can oversee, but we love just to be, you know, be so hands-on, and want to make these episodes.
“I mean, there are a lot of amazing people that make these shows possible. I don’t want to minimize that at all by any stretch of the imagination. But we’re also kind of thinking about something else that we’re potentially going to, maybe, you know, do together. So there might be something new on the horizon. Maybe, we’ll see. You never know.”
After teasing another project with Johnson, I asked him to clarify whether there were tangible plans being made for Seven Bucks Productions to work with the Dark Side team, once again, on a new show.
“Potentially,” he quipped. “There’s an idea out there that I’m pretty, pretty excited about and so I don’t know, we’ll see. Stay tuned. You know, that’s it.”
One story involving Johnson that would certainly make a great centerpiece for a docuseries is a potential match against his cousin, Roman Reigns.
“No, it does not involve that,” he laughed. “That I can say definitively.”
