Cody Rhodes may want to finish his story with a big WWE World title win but it appears one of his greatest foils may hold gold before he does. WrestleVotes, courtesy of GiveMeSport, is reporting that Seth Rollins is currently the “leading candidate” to win the new WWE World Championship that Paul “Triple H” Levesque debuted this past Monday night on Raw.
Furthermore, it was noted by the outlet that Rollins has a “very good chance” of capturing that title at Night of Champions on May 27 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. If Rollins is to win the title on that show, he will need a compelling opponent to wrestle against. The Architect’s feud with Cody Rhodes’ provided some of the best matches of 2022, and a potential rematch between the men, with world title implications, no less, could make for some compelling content.
At the moment, Rhodes is embroiled in a feud with former WWE and UFC World Champion Brock Lesnar. Following WWE WrestleMania 39, Lesnar and Rhodes were set to tag against The Bloodline on Raw. Moments before the match could take place, The Beast turned on The American Nightmare and left him laying with an F5 on steel steps in the middle of the ring. If Rhodes is able to overcome Lesnar at WWE Backlash, he would certainly have a case to be in world title competition once again.
Rollins, on the other hand, has somehow found his way into a feud with Omos. Somewhat ironically, Omos suffered a rather lackluster loss to Lesnar at WrestleMania, seemingly giving Lesnar a big win ahead of his planned post-Mania feud with Rhodes. If Rhodes and Rollins do clash in the desert of Saudi Arabia, a pair of Omos losses would seemingly have aided in the build to the big match.
