Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson may not be booked for WWE WrestleMania 39 but his shadow looms large, regardless. For months leading into the big event, the speculation was that The Rock would return to WWE and face his cousin, Roman Reigns, for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on The Grandest Stage Of Them All. Those hopes were all but dashed when Cody Rhodes won the men’s 2023 Royal Rumble match, securing himself a main event match against The Tribal Chief.
Even still, some hoped The Rock could insert himself into the match but with mere hours to go before the big show, it doesn’t seem like a triple-threat match is likely. Even still, The Rock couldn’t help himself from participating in Mania weekend in some fashion and released a video on social media addressing his millions, and millions, of fans.
In the video, The Rock put over the weekend as a whole, even noting what a big event WWE NXT Stand & Deliver is. Of course, The Rock’s daughter, Simone, made her WWE in-ring debut on that show as Ava, a member of Joe Gacy’s dastardly The Schism faction. The Great One made sure to tell her how proud he is of her.
Moving on to the performers themselves, who he called his “brothers and sisters,” he encouraged them to make WrestleMania moments and history. “Have some f-cking fun,” he couldn’t stop himself from saying. “Go out there and kick ass.”
The Rock then took time to comment on the dual main events featuring multiple members of the Anoa’i family. He gave them all his best and teased that “maybe, just maybe, down the road” he might see them down the road. A tease that I am sure will get no one buzzing.
And while The Rock definitely has love for his blood family, he made a point to say how Cody Rhodes is like family to him as well, considering how close the Rhodes and Anao’is are. He lovingly recalled Dusty Rhodes and his father, “Soulman” Rocky Johnson, hanging at each other’s houses as they were tagging before calling Cody’s journey “inspiring.”
The Rock closed by praising the “hundreds and hundreds and hundreds” of WWE employees who have relentlessly worked behind the scenes this weekend. It’s about the “boots on the ground” for The Rock and he thanked everyone for their incredible work. “Let’s enjoy WrestleMania weekend, SoFi Stadium, I’m out.”
