The Face Of The Revolution winning the AEW TNT Championship was televised. Last night on AEW Dynamite, Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Wardlow to capture The War Daddy’s newly won title.
The win may have come as a surprise to many fans but according to a report from Fightful, plans to put the TNT title on Hobbs were tentatively planned months ago. Hobbs’ direct path to his title win last night started last week on Dynamite when he was victorious in AEW’s annual Face Of The Revolution ladder match. The win earned Hobbs a TNT title shot the following week on Dynamite against the winner of Wardlow vs Samoa Joe at Revolution.
Of course, Wardlow had his big moment at Revolution when he toppled Joe for the TNT Championship, which Joe had held for 32 days. Wardlow’s title win celebration was short-lived, as Tuesday night he put out a video revealing that his rental car had legitimately been broken into. His gear, boots, and beloved TNT title were all taken in the theft leaving him in a bind as he headed into his defense.
Wardlow made the best of the situation as he borrowed an FTR shirt, threw on his jeans, and decided to make the defense a Last Man Standing match. The match did seem to be going Wardlow’s way early on until QT Marshall inserted himself into the situation, aiding Hobbs with a steel chair. The two then worked together to powerbomb Wardlow off the stage into some production equipment. Wardlow was unable to get to his feet by the count of ten and Hobbs was named the new TNT Champion.
Following the match, Hobbs headed to the ring with a microphone to address the fans in a segment that was not aired on TV. Hobbs ran down the crowd by telling them they all suck and that all the Sacramento sports teams suck. He ended by saying they can all, “Have a good night and kiss my black ass.”
